The heart of the Gospel is the cross. The death of Christ is not a peripheral doctrine but central doctrine in Christianity. The atonement, the substitutionary death of Christ is the climax of the gospel. The cross points to the justice of God and the love of God. The same cross, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to the Greeks is the very essence of the gospel. The Bible does not simply announces Jesus as the perfect man, or as the model of a new ethics, or as the supreme master of spirituality, but speaks of the crucified Jesus. It is in Christ which is embodied the wisdom of God .
